Vascular surgery is performed on patients who are diagnosed with diseases of the arterial, venous and lymphatic systems. The surgery does not include the coronary and the intracranial arteries.
Vascular surgery is suggested to those patients who have vascular diseases but cannot be treated by nonsurgical or less invasive methods. The purpose of the vascular surgery is to cater to various vascular diseases, i.e. the diseases in the veins and the arteries. Arterial diseases are conditions in which there are blood clots, arteriosclerosis and other vascular conditions in the arteries. The venous diseases include problems occurring in the veins. Some vascular conditions occur only in the arteries whereas there are others which occur only in the veins, affecting both arteries and veins.
Vascular diseases become very common as people age. As they have almost no or mild symptoms in the early days, many people often fail to realize that they are suffering from them. People, who suffer from peripheral vascular disease or PVD, often have blockages caused by blood clots that travel to the lungs from a different part of the body. Factors increasing the tendencies to have vascular diseases are:
- Smoking
- Obesity
- Hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol
- Illness or injury
- Family history of vascular diseases
- Injuries or illnesses
- Pregnancy
- Prolonged periods of inactivity
- Lack of exercise etc.
Vascular surgery involves techniques which relate to endovascular surgeries like balloon angioplasty and/or stenting, thrombolysis, aortic and peripheral vascular endovascular stent/graft placement and various other adjuncts for vascular reconstruction. The vascular system is the network of blood vesse4ls which are responsible for circulating blood to and from the heart and the lungs. The circulatory system comprises the veins, the capillaries, the heart, the arteries and the blood that circulates. They are responsible for providing nourishment to the cells of the body and removing the waste. The vascular diseases are usually caused by the conditions that weaken or clog the blood vessels or damage the valves that control the flow of blood in and out of the veins. These conditions are responsible for the reduction of oxygen and blood nutrients. Some of the few common diseases affecting the arteries are PVD, aortic aneurysms and carotid artery disease.
Vascular surgeries can be performed some specific conditions like atherosclerosis which can prevent heart attacks or strokes. The surgeries can also relieve or improve hypertension or angina, improve claudication, remove aneurysms and save the legs which would have to be otherwise amputated. The surgery choices can include bypassing, replacing or repairing the artery.
The department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in ClearMedi is run under the tutelage of highly experienced and expert cardiac surgeons. They play a huge role in carrying out multi-vessel beating heart surgeries and bloodless heart surgeries efficiently. The team has trained and efficient electrophysiologists who are capable of performing RF ablations on patients who need cardiac arrhythmia. They are also experts in implantation of a huge variety of pacemakers and intracardiac defibrillators. Some other non-invasive cardiology procedures are:
- EECP
- Echocardiography
- Holter
- TMT
- TEE or Transesophegal ECHO
- Stress Echocardiography
In interventional Cardiology, the procedures adopted are:
- Angiography
- Angioplasty-Stenting
- Valvuloplasty
- Non-Surgical Heart Hole Closure
- Rotablation
Other than these, there are specialised departments for electrophysiology, cardiovascular surgery, non-invasive cardiology etc.
ClearMedi is proud to possess the most advanced and scientific equipments and machineries to treat every kind of heart patient who visits the hospital. The Cath Lab is equipped with the most advanced flat panel Cath labs. The Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab includes 12 channels Electrocardiography, GE Vivid 3 and Philips Envisor-C Colour Doppler with Stress Echo and Tranesophegal Echocardiography, Telemetry, Case Computerised Tread Mill, Telemetry, 24 hour Holter monitoring and Enhanced External Counter Pulsation.
